Volunteer Information Session

September 24, 2019

Thinking about volunteering with Dress for Success Central Alberta. Come out and find our what we do and if you are a fit to join our fabulous group of volunteers!

The mission of Dress for Success is to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

Dress for Success Central Alberta is seeking enthusiastic fashion conscious women who are also emphatic, compassionate and open minded for the following volunteer positions:

Personal Suitors:

Work directly with a woman in need of support and encouragement. Help her find the perfect outfit and confidence that makes her shine and increase her chances of getting a job!

After training is completed, you will be able to touch women’s lives one on one. We want our clients to feel their best while job searching and going through the interview process. Our clients are referred to us from over 20 referral agencies in Central Alberta.  Working in teams of two our suitors guide our client through the process of choosing an appropriate outfit for their job search/interview. Once clients have successfully obtained employment we encourage them to return to our boutique for a week’s worth of appropriate work attire.  Personal suitors should be compassionate, empathic and adaptable as we work with women coming from wide ranging backgrounds.  Suitors should also be open minded and fashion conscious.

On Call Suitors:  Perfect for someone working or going to school that still wants the opportunity to touch another woman’s life. Same description as above but available to do a suiting out of set boutique hours.  For example:  Weekday evenings and Saturday mornings.

Inventory Maintenance Team: Dress for Success Central Alberta relies solely on the generous donations from our community.  These generous donations allow us to provide our clients with an appropriate outfit for their job search/interview or job placement. Our inventory maintenance team sorts through donations, inventories items, then stocks and organizes the boutique to ensure that the women we serve have the best professional attire to choose from. Inappropriate items in good condition are kept for one of our two semi-annual sale

Learning Centre Specialist: We are excited to be opening our learning centre to assist our current and past clients with upgrading opportunities. We are looking for women to to help mentor our clients by helping boost their confidence through mock interviewing and providing them with resume tips to get to the next level. Our learning centre to start will be open one evening a week as well as a Saturday morning.

Volunteers for Special Events:  You are someone that believes in the mission and values of Dress for Success, but does not have a lot of time to give on a regular basis.  You are someone that is willing to help out at the 2 or 4 special events Dress for Success holds on an annual basis. These events include our seasonal changeovers, done on a Saturday, our two semi annual sales and our major fundraising event.

Group Volunteering Opportunities:  Dress for Success Central Alberta brings together individuals, corporations, faith organizations, educational or community groups, as well as dress clubs or a group of friends to ensure our mission is fulfilled.

Want to spend time making a difference?  Interested in getting together with your friends or colleagues for positive and uplifting team building activities? Gather a group together and make change now. We would love to have you help us!

Seamstress/Menders:  Occasionally we receive some beautiful clothing items that other than missing a button or needing a belt loop reattached would be perfect for the boutique.  At the moment we currently get rid of the item but would like to have two seamstress/menders that would be available to tackle these small projects

A Few Good Men/Women:  We are also looking for a few men/women that would be willing to help out with things we sometimes struggle to do.  These range from changing light bulbs (fluorescent tubing), to installing fixtures and fixing items including rolling rack wheels etc.  This would be a very on call requirement, and we would work with your schedule.

If you are a business or organization looking to do a team building volunteer event, please send us an email to inquiry how we could make that happen.
